PRINCIPLES OF HEALTH
Habits and principles for a longer, healthier life

Health habits--we learn them from our parents, teachers, physicians, and health educators. Some we learn on our own by reading, by experiencing, and by observation of others. The Scriptures contain many principles for good health. As these principles have been studied and applied by various gifted physicians, teachers and scientists, the benefits of applying them and the consequences of ignoring them have been observed over time.

During the 19th century, although many health and medical principles were being discovered, there were still many serious unchecked illnesses including infections. The field of health was beginning to develop in a more scientific manner, but still promoted some wrong concepts in the field of health including the use of tobacco to "help" respiratory diseases. During the late 1800's and continuing until the early 1900's, a young woman named Ellen White received inspiration in the form of dreams and visions regarding many important health principles that had been unknown or discarded over centuries. When Seventh-day Adventists began following these principles, they gradually began to have much better health. These basic health principles are an important part of preventing and reversing diseases. Click here for a history of Seventh-day Adventist health principles.
