 Seventh-day Adventists are a group of people who place emphasis on following spiritual principles given by God in the Scriptures. They have championed a healthy lifestyle for more than a century — before it became popular to do so.

Healthy lifestyle habits that Adventists have promoted include eight basic health and spiritual habits along with other highly important principles of mental attitude, such as being cheerful and expressing gratitude. When practiced, these habits have given Adventists an overall health advantage of from eight to ten years of extra life, as well as a healthier quality of life as compared to the overall general public. In addition, they have much lower risks for certain cancers, and heart and lung diseases.

Studies of various populations, some following these principles, some not, have validated the fact that these basic health habits are universally beneficial when followed.
